Instructions

  1. Getting Rid of Mold Allergens

    • 1

Fix leaky pipes or any other plumbing problems. These can contribute to mold allergens.

    • 2

Replace tiles that are moldy or have mold underneath them.

    • 3

Wash any mold off walls or surfaces. Scrub off the mold with soap and water, bleach, hydrogen peroxide or vinegar, using a stiff brush. Choose one of these options because mixing chemicals could be hazardous.

    • 4

Install insulation for all windows, piping, exterior walls and roofs.

    • 5

Turn on the exhaust fan after showering, bathing, using washers, using dryers, using dish washers, and cooking. Turning on air conditioners that have an allergen filter can also reduce mold allergens. Use dehumidifiers and try to keep the humidity level under 40 percent. Change the filters on a regular basis.

    • 6

Remove houseplants from the areas where you want to get rid of allergens. The soil used to pot houseplants can be a reservoir for mold and moisture.
