Dust Mites & Carpet Allergies
Many allergies are commonly associated with dust mites within the carpets of homes. Since carpets work as a harbor due to their design, it is important for people to understand the causes and solutions to the problems of dust mites within the carpet.-
Size
-
Dust mites are extremely small--in fact, they measure far smaller than what the human eye can detect.
Attraction
-
The attraction of dust mites is to areas that are humid and filled with dust. This makes carpets, beds and furniture prime targets for dust mites to thrive.
Feeding
-
Dust mites feed off of dead skin cells, including human and pet dander--which are commonly found in dust. Since people generally walk and live mostly on carpet, this quickly becomes a prime environment for dust mites.
Vacuuming
-
If you have anybody in the family that has bad allergies or asthma, then you should constantly vacuum to lessen the effect of dust mites. Vacuums that contain high-efficiency filters will work much better than standard vacuums.
House Design
-
If possible, avoid placing carpet directly over a cement foundation, as this creates a humid space that makes it easier for dust mites to thrive.
