Household Fungus

According to Household Mold Guide, mold and fungus can cause allergies, asthma, headaches, joint pains and rashes. Test for household fungus, then find a solution and act upon it while ensuring maximum safety. Finishing up the cleaning also requires proper care.
  1. Detection

    • If you often suffer from headaches, breathing difficulty and itchy eyes, you may have mold inside the house. Take a close look and see if you find small black spores gathering around in moist areas.

    Test

    • Carry out a fungus test, which involves a petri dish and a disc. You can get do-it-yourself kits (see Resources) that can help you carry out this test.

    Control

    • Assess the area of the affected part of the house. Seal any type of ventilation so the fungus does not spread again. Wipe away the mold spores using anti-fungus spray or a biocide like chlorine bleach.

    Safety

    • While cleaning up fungus, wear gloves made from polyurethane or natural rubber. Also, wear goggles that do not have ventilation holes. Avoid touching any moldy items and avoid letting mold spores get in your eyes.

    Cleanup

    • Completely remove the visible mold as well as the mold smell. Shortly after cleaning up, look around for further mold growth. If you find any sign, go through the cleaning procedure again.
