Hives Eye Treatment

Hives occur when your body has an allergic reaction to a food or substance. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, 10 percent to 20 percent of the population will experience hives, which can occur anywhere on the body, including around the eyes.
  1. Significance

    • The tissue around the eyes is extremely sensitive. When hives occur there, skin can become very swollen.

    Prevention/Solution

    • The most important thing to do with hives is find out what is causing the allergic reaction and cease your exposure to it.

    Medication

    • Antihistamines are helpful for taking down swelling. It is important to take them at regular intervals to stop hives from returning. These are available over the counter.

    Considerations

    • If your hives around your eyes are extremely swollen, your doctor may have to give you an epinephrine shot to reduce swelling.

    Warning

    • Your doctor may also recommend cortisone injections for your hives. This will certainly bring relief, but you can only receive a few cortisone injections before it is harmful to your health.
