Allergies to Salmon Fish
Just like most foods, some people can develop an allergic reaction to salmon. The causative agent in the allergic reaction is the protein found in the fish's meat.-
Significance
-
According to the Auckland Allergy Clinic, nuts and fish account for 85 percent of the allergies found in adults and children.
Symptoms
-
Symptoms of an allergic reaction to salmon will vary from person to person. Mild symptoms include hives, stomach issues and swelling. Sometimes a person will sneeze or have coughing fits.
Warning
-
People who have a severe reaction to salmon may go into anaphylactic shock. Symptoms of this type of reaction include tightness in the chest, drop in blood pressure, difficulty in breathing and choking.
Time Frame
-
Most often symptoms will occur within two hours after eating the fish but in some cases symptoms of an allergic reaction may not occur for 24 hours.
Considerations
-
If a person has a salmon allergy, it is very likely they are allergic to other fish as well. It is important to talk to a doctor before resuming the consumption of fish after an allergic reaction.
