Claritin Side Effects
Claritin, also known by its generic name Loratadine, is an antihistamine used to treat seasonal allergies and allergic rhinitis. It is available in multiple strengths and varieties, including decongestant varieties, children's formula and eye drops.-
Contraindications

Claritin products warn against using the product if a patient has any kidney or liver problems. Claritin also advises that a patient should alert a doctor to any drug allergies prior to taking the medication.
Minor Side Effects

Minor side effects include headaches, fatigue, dry mouth, thirst, dry nose or hoarseness.
Claritin-D (the decongestant formula) may cause coughing, dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, nervousness, sleepiness or sore throat. Contact a doctor if these symptoms persist while taking Claritin products.
Severe Side Effects

Severe (but rare) side effects include nervousness, rapid or pounding heartbeat, unusual weakness, stomach pain, dizziness, diarrhea or wheezing. Consult a medical professional immediately if you experience any of these side effects after taking Claritin. Alert your doctor if you experience the following symptoms after taking Claritin-D: insomnia, dizziness, weakness, tremor or unusual heartbeats.
Pregnancy

Claritin is rated as an "FDA Pregnancy Category B." Claritin-D has not been extensively studies for effects during pregnancy.
Precautions

Be sure to read the label of any other allergy product taken in conjunction with Claritin. Taking multiple antihistamines can increase the risk of experiencing side effects.
