What Can I Do for Tree Pollen Allergies?
-
Identification
-
According to EMEDTV.com, only 100 of the 50,000 types of trees produce allergy causing pollen. These trees include: catalpa, elm, hickory, olive, pecan, sycamore, and walnut.
Prevention/Solution
-
Clothes dried outside can bring pollen indoors. Tree pollen is at its peak during early morning hours. Allergy sufferers should avoid the outdoors until late afternoon, when the levels are lower and less likely to have a negative effect. Keeping windows and doors closed, and keeping outdoor air out of the home or office can lower a person's exposure to the allergy causing pollen.
Considerations
-
Indoor/outdoor pets transfer allergy causing pollens into the home. It is also important to remember that any clothes or linens being air dried can accumulate pollen.
Treatment
-
In addition to avoiding tree pollen, certain medications such as antihistamines, can prevent or lessen the symptoms of the allergic reaction. Nasal decongestants are also useful in reducing the nasal swelling, which in turn eases breathing.
Warning
-
Medications must be taken with caution. Antihistamines are known to cause drowsiness.
