The Description of Allergies

Allergies can affect many parts of your body and often stem from everyday encounters with different types of food, animals and plants. Allergies are a common problem and many treatments exist.
  1. Common Allergies

    • People have developed allergic reactions to almost everything out there. Some of the most common causes are furry animals (especially cats and dogs), pollen, dust, mold, insects, and food, especially peanuts.

    Allergy Symptoms

    • Common allergy symptoms include a runny nose, itchy, red eyes, sneezing, hives, an itchy or swollen throat and even an upset stomach.

    Quick Treatment

    • If you suddenly suffer from an allergic reaction, think about any change in your lifestyle. Did you get a new pet or a bouquet of flowers? Did you eat something unusual? If you can pinpoint the cause, distance yourself from it right away. You can take over-the-counter medications to help relieve your symptoms. Benadryl contains antihistamines, which block the allergic reaction. There are also allergy eye drops and nasal sprays available in most drugstores.

    More Extreme Treatment

    • If your symptoms persist, visit a doctor. Doctors can prescribe allergy medication or offer shots that will help your body build an immunity to the cause of your allergies.

    Dangerous Allergic Reactions

    • If your throat swells and you have trouble breathing or continuously vomit, go to the doctor immediately. Some allergic reactions are so severe that they can endanger your life. In cases like these, don't hesitate to visit the hospital.
