1
See your doctor. You may need a check-up so your doctor can diagnose and recommend treatment to relieve your head congestion. Treatment of your condition likely will be based on the results of your medical examination.

2
Try a decongestant medication. Over-the-counter oral decongestants can relieve your head congestion by reducing nasal inflammation. Ask your doctor if oral decongestants are appropriate for your head congestion. If you take this medication, read the label thoroughly and only take the recommended dosage.

3
Use a nasal spray. Decongestant nasal sprays work directly on your nasal passages to decrease inflammation by shrinking blood vessels in the nasal lining. Check with your doctor before using nasal sprays. Do not use nasal sprays every day, because you may experience a rebound effect and worsen your head congestion. Read the label carefully, and use only as directed.

4
Take antibiotics. If an infection is causing your head congestion, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics. Your congestion will be relieved when your infection is resolved. Take all your prescribed antibiotics, because not doing so may not resolve your infection.
-
5
Use a vaporizer. Sleep with a vaporizer next to your bed. The moist steam may relieve your head congestion. Clean your vaporizer thoroughly after each use, because bacteria may grow inside it and worsen your head congestion next time you use it.
