1
Use medication to reduce the swelling in the sinus cavity and prevent future mucus production. Take an over-the-counter decongestant such as pseudoephedrine at the first sign of nasal congestion or drainage to dry up the mucus. Use an over-the-counter antihistamine if the sinus issues are related to allergies.

2
Avoid all mucus-producing foods and drinks. Do not consume any dairy products as they will cause the sinus cavity to produce mucus. Stay away from foods that are high in sugar, especially refined sugars because refined sugars cause the body to produce excessive mucus. Avoid wheat products and bi-products as they can irritate the sinuses.

Purchase a neti pot (sinus wash) at a pharmacy. Mix 1 cup of warm water with a ½ teaspoon of sea salt and pour into the neti pot. Place the neti pot on the right nostril and tilt the head to the left so the chin is parallel with the right shoulder. Pour the entire contents into the nose and allow it come out the other nostril. Gently blow the nose and repeat on the left nostril.
