Wheat Allergy Rash & Pain
-
Function
-
Wheat allergies are brought on by immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibody responses to wheat proteins that the body identifies as harmful, causing histamine releases and resulting in inflammation leading to rash and pain.
Types
-
Wheat allergies cause an array of skin irritations such as eczema, hives, rashes and psoriasis, all of which can lead to painful itching, swelling, dryness and burning.
Considerations
-
Wheat allergy rash is often accompanied by painful migraine pressure, facial tenderness, fatigue, asthma and gastro-intestinal complications that may make it difficult to identify wheat as the source of pain.
Warning
-
Wheat allergy rash and pain occurring within five minutes of ingestion and causing severe symptoms of chest tightness, swelling, oral hives and constricted breathing signify a life-threatening reaction called anaphylaxis.
Prevention/Solution
-
Eliminating sources of wheat effectively reduces the onset of rashes and pain, whereas applying topical antihistamines relieves symptoms of burning and itching that have set in. Epinephrine shots treat anaphylaxis.
