What Are the Causes of a Puffy Face?

Many things can cause a puffy face. Some of the causes are allergies, drug reactions, sinusitis, tooth abscesses, facial or head surgery and facial trauma.
  1. Allergies

    • When allergies strike, the immune system is ready to destroy them. The body releases an antibody. When this and the allergy meet, inflammatory chemicals result.

    Drug Reactions

    • Certain drugs can cause a swollen face. Two common culprits are aspirin and penicillin.

    Sinusitis

    • Sinusitis can cause painful swelling of the sinuses. Infections of various kinds can cause it.

    Tooth Abscesses

    • When a tooth begins to decay, an abscess can form. A hole is created where bacteria can get in. An abscess can also be caused by getting hit in the mouth.

    Facial/Head Surgery

    • If one has recently gone through any kind of surgery, swelling can be a result, but it is temporary.

    Facial/Head Trauma

    • If the face or head gets hit, swelling can occur.
