Side Effects of Loratadine Tablets
-
Non-Serious Side Effects
-
Most people taking loratadine tablets will not experience any side effects, but some people may develop dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, dry mouth, coughing, fatigue, mild stomach upset, nausea, nervousness, difficulty sleeping or a sore throat. None of these is cause for concern.
Serious Side Effects
-
In rare cases, people taking loratadine tablets may develop side effects that could indicate a potential problem requiring medical treatment. If you develop any of the following symptoms, notify a doctor and seek medical attention: severe or persistent dizziness, uncontrolled shaking or tremors, difficulty urinating, chest pain, seizures, mental or mood changes, and a fast or irregular heartbeat.
Allergic Reaction
-
As with all medications, in rare cases people taking loratadine may develop severe allergic reactions. Common signs of an allergic reaction include hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, wheezing and swelling of the face, lips, tongue and throat. People suffering from a severe allergic reaction may go into shock, so immediate medical attention is necessary.
Warnings
-
Loratadine may not be safe for all people. For example, women who are pregnant or may be pregnant should not take the medicine, and neither should people who have serious liver or kidney problems. Before taking loratadine, consult with your doctor to see if the medication is safe for you.
Drug Interactions
-
As with all medications, loratadine is known to cause interactions with other drugs. For example, people taking loratadine with amiodarone are at an increased risk of developing an irregular heartbeat as a result of the drugs' interaction. Before taking loratadine, discuss any medications you are taking--prescription and over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements--with a doctor or pharmacist.
