How to Get Tested for Food Allergies
Food allergies can be quite annoying. For some people, a food allergy simply means they cannot indulge in some of their favorite foods. But for others, food allergies can be quite deadly. Some common symptoms of food allergies include a tingling sensation in the mouth and swelling of the throat and tongue. An allergic reaction to food can lead to breathing difficulties, diarrhea and even death. It is important to see you doctor if you suspect that you or someone in your family has food allergies.Instructions

1
Make an appointment with your doctor to be tested for food allergies.
-
2
Decide with your doctor which type of food allergy test is best for you to take. There are four types of tests: skin prick, traditional blood test, intradermal skin test (injection under the skin) and a food challenge.
-
3
Show up to your doctor's appointment on time, having followed any directions that he may have given you. Your doctor may ask you to fast (go a set period of time without food) or skip a dosage of medicine, if he thinks it may interact with the test.

Take the skin allergy test. You may be pricked by a needle containing food extract (skin prick test). You may have a vial of blood drawn, which is then tested in a lab. You may be injected with the food extract (intradermal skin test) or you may be given a particular food and then watched by your doctor to see if you have any reactions (food challenge test).

Talk to you doctor about your results. Your doctor will now be able to tell you if and what your food allergies are.
