Symptoms of Chronic Allergies

Having an allergy means that you are hypersensitive to a specific substance. There are many different irritants or triggers that can lead to chronic allergies.
  1. Identification

    • Allergies can often resemble symptoms of a common cold. The difference with chronic allergies is that symptoms can last for longer periods of time (like during hay fever season), or they can come and go sporadically (like when exposed to pet dander).

    • Respiratory, contact and food allergies are among the most common types of allergies. They manifest themselves into various conditions including, hay fever, asthma, and eczema,

    Symptoms

    • Typical symptoms of chronic allergies include nasal and sinus congestion, wheezing, and hives. Red, watery, itchy eyes are also common symptoms that can effect allergy sufferers. In extreme cases, anaphylactic shock can occur, which may result in death.

    Triggers

    • Some of the most common triggers of an allergic reaction are pollen, dust, mold, pet dander, smoke, and foods.

    Considerations

    • There is no cure for chronic allergies. However, there are many medications available for treatment of allergies.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Remove potential allergens from your home by using a Hepa vacuum, and air purifier.
