What Does Nasonex Contain?

Nasonex is a prescription medication that contains the active ingredient mometasone furoate. Nasonex also contains the preservative benzalkonium chloride, as well as other inactive aqueous ingredients to form a suspension.
  1. Function

    • Mometasone is a steroid with anti-inflammatory effects that are useful in treating nasal allergy symptoms associated with indoor and outdoor allergies in patients over 2 years old. Nasonex can also be used to prevent nasal allergy symptoms in patients over 12 years old, if started two to four weeks before allergy season.

    • An estimated 40 million Americans suffer from indoor or outdoor allergies.

    How to Use

    • Nasonex is administered as a nasal spray and each spray contains 50 micrograms of mometasone. Nasonex is administered once daily: one spray per nostril for children ages 2 to 11 for the treatment of allergy symptoms, two sprays per nostril for adults and children aged 12 years and older for the treatment or prevention of symptoms.

    • Nasonex can also be used to treat nasal polyps in patients older than 18.
