Signs of Allergy & Sinus Problems
-
Sinusitis
-
Sinusitis causes inflammation and pain in the sinuses. The American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology describes the following symptoms of sinusitis: head congestion, colored nasal discharge, headache, fever and cough. Sinusitis can also present with facial soreness and pressure and painful teeth, and sometimes bad breath.
Allergic Rhinitis
-
Allergic rhinitis, according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, can also present with head congestion and a runny nose. Unlike sinusitis, its symptoms include itching of the throat, eyes, and ears. Sneezing and watery eyes are common with allergic rhinitis, too.
Skin Allergies
-
Another sign of allergy problems is skin rashes that can itch, flake or become inflamed. Eczema is a common form of skin allergy.
Anaphylaxis
-
Anaphylaxis is the most severe allergic reaction. It is usually in response to eating food, consuming medication, insect bites or latex. Symptoms, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, include tingling sensations, tightness in the chest and throat and difficulty breathing. Immediate medical attention is required with this potentially lethal reaction.
Other Allergy Symptoms
-
Other signs that allergies may be present include allergic conjunctivitis, which is an eye inflammation characterized by watery, itchy eyes and eyelids. Asthma symptoms such as coughing and wheezing can be brought on by an allergic reaction as well.
