1
Identify how your life will improve once you overcome your fear. Taking advantage of roller coasters may provide new opportunities to bond with friends or positively influence your fear of heights in general. This can serve as your motivation to work through the fear.
-
2
Take small steps at first. If you have a fear of heights in general, try standing at the top of a building and looking down without movement. Stay there until the anxiety disappears. Repeat this process until there is no longer the initial onset of anxiety.
-
3
Attempt to ride a roller coaster, either by attending a county fair or a local theme park. This may require mentally psyching yourself up before boarding. You may also take along a friend for encouragement.
-
4
Realize that you are safe and no harm was done while riding. You may be mentally exhausted after this first ride, but make a plan to come back and ride it again, each time recognizing how irrational your fear is. Eventually you will become desensitized to the height and may learn to enjoy riding all kinds of roller coasters.
