Side Effects of Namenda
Namenda (memantine HCL oral tablet) is a treatment for moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. Namenda does not cure Alzheimer's disease and does not halt the progression of symptoms. However, patients taking Namenda may show improvement in their ability to do daily functions.-
Warnings

Do not take Namenda if you have a history of kidney disease, urinary tract problems, or epilepsy/seizures. Namenda may make these conditions worse.
Common Side Effects

Common side effects when taking Namenda include, headache, dizziness, and chest pain. Patients experiencing these side effects should see a physician immediately.
Severe Side Effects

Severe side effects when taking Namenda are unlikely but include bloating, swelling of the face and arms, blurred vision, and rapid weight gain.
More Severe Side Effects

Other severe side effects include irregular heartbeat, tingling of the extremities, and a pounding sensation in the ears. If any of these occur it is important to see a physician immediately.
Non Life Threatening Side Effects

Certain side effects from Namenda do not require medical attention. Possible non-life threatening side effects include anxiety, back pain, cloudy or discolored urine, trouble sleeping, and vomiting. These symptoms typically subside as the body adjusts to the medication.
Confusion

While Namenda is intended to treat Alzheimer's, one of it's side effects is temporary confusion. This symptom will subside as the body adjusts to the medication.
