Why are people mean to anorexics?
There are a few reasons why people may be mean to anorexics.
Lack of understanding. Many people do not understand eating disorders and may view them as a choice or a sign of weakness. This can lead to judgmental attitudes and even outright hostility.
Stigma. Eating disorders are still stigmatized in many societies, which can make it difficult for people with anorexia to seek help or feel supported. This stigma can also lead to discrimination, such as being denied employment or housing.
Fear. Some people may be afraid of people with anorexia because they see them as a threat to their own health or well-being. This fear can lead to avoidance, social isolation, and even cruelty.
Jealousy. Some people may be jealous of the attention that people with anorexia receive from doctors, family, and friends. This jealousy can lead to resentment and even bullying.
It is important to remember that people with anorexia are not deserving of any of this mistreatment. They are suffering from a serious mental illness and need compassion and support, not cruelty.
