It is possible to be anorexic and not have a body image problem?
Anorexia nervosa is a mental illness characterized by an intense fear of gaining weight. People who suffer from disordered eating often have a negative body image. However, it is possible to be anorexic and not have a negative body image. Some people with anorexia may see themselves as overweight or obese, even when they are dangerously underweight. Others may have a more realistic view of their body size, but still feel compelled to restrict their food intake in order to maintain their current weight. In other words, body image is not the sole factor that drives anorexia nervosa, although it is often a significant part of the disorder.
