Osteoarthritis Support Programs
According to Everydayhealth.com, approximately 27 million Americans are affected by osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition of the muscles and joints that is characterized by symptoms such as pain, swelling and stiffness. Unlike arthritis, osteoarthritis is not inflammatory and is generally not disabling. However, those living with osteoarthritis may struggle with walking, standing, and even weight loss. With the help of major organizations and the Internet, support groups exist to help individuals manage the condition.-
Life Improvement Series

The Arthritis Foundation sponsors the Life Improvement Series for those living with osteoarthritis. The series consists of a variety of exercises taught by certified instructors. Individuals learn exercises to increase flexibility, mobility and muscle strength. Standing and sitting exercises are included. Additionally, light swimming instruction is provided to assist with flexibility and mobility training. Through the "Walk with Ease" program, individuals are taught walking methods that can help reduce pain. According to the foundation's website, Arthritisfoundation.org, members have seen improvements such as weight loss, pain reduction and decrease in the amount of medication needed.
