Tetracylines
-
The use of antibiotics in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis is being explored. The tetracycline family of antibiotics have been studied in clinical trials of other diseases. Minocin is proving superior to simple tetracycline or doxycycline in sustained serum levels, spectrum of activity and tissue penetrability.
Starting Dosages
-
An acceptable starting dosage for most patients is 100 mg. of Minocin on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. Daily doses are not recommended as no great medical benefit has been established related to a daily regimen.
Minocycline
-
Minocycline is the generic label for the antibiotic of the tetracycline family. Minocin is a brand name of this medication. Research indicates that either form is an acceptable treatment. Minocin appears to be superior for patients with sensitive stomachs due to a higher absorption rate when taken with food.
