Asthma Types List

Asthma affects the airways, making it hard for sufferers to breath. This illness is sometimes thought of as just an allergy, but it is not always allergy related. Irritants such as cigarette smoke and chlorine can trigger attacks, which is why this illness is compared to allergies. Symptoms of asthma are wheezing and a narrowing of the trachea, according to "The Allergy Bible."
  1. Allergic

    • Allergic asthma is a reaction to an allergen. This type of asthma is most common. According to "The Asthma Bible," about 90 percent of children suffering from asthma have this type. Pet dander, pollen, cigarette smoke, molds and foods can cause this type of asthmatic reaction.

    Exercise-Induced

    • Exercise-induced asthma can result from the strain that high-intensity exercise puts on the lungs and airways, causing coughing and wheezing. People who suffer from this type of asthma have to learn how to exercise in a way that does not get them breathing too rapidly, which can trigger an attack.

    Cough-Variant

    • "The Allergy Bible" says that someone who coughs and wheezes a lot could be suffering from a cough-variant asthma. This is also the type of asthma that is triggered by cold air.

    Nocturnal

    • Nocturnal asthma affects people most often at night when they try to go to sleep. Their airways become constricted when they lie down, making it hard to breath and sleep.
