Problems With the ProAir Inhaler
-
Respiratory Distress
-
Very rarely, breathing problems can occur when using ProAir. As indicated by ProAir HFA, breathing problems may occur with the use of a new inhaler canister. The breathing problems will develop immediately after using the inhaler and can be life-threatening.
Mouth Sores
-
Sores can develop within the mouth. Canker sores can develop within the soft tissues of your mouth. The sores can become painful, making eating difficult. If the sores become severe, a spacer can be used to help alleviate the problem.
Diabetes
-
Glucose levels should be monitored while taking ProAir. According to Drugs.com, the use of ProAir may cause blood sugar to rise in diabetics. Taking more than the recommended dosage if you have diabetes, can exacerbate your condition and lead to diabetic complications, such as high blood pressure and heart disease. Continual monitoring of your blood sugar will be necessary if you take ProAir and have diabetes.
Pregnancy
-
ProAir may cause problems to a fetus. ProAir is registered as a Class C medication. This means that the effects of medicine on an unborn baby are unknown, though there may be a slight chance of harm to the fetus. As stated by Physicians' Desktop Reference, the use of ProAir while pregnant should only be done if the benefits of the inhaler far outweigh any unknown risks to your fetus. You may also wish to consult with a physician on whether breast-feeding while using ProAir is safe. It is unknown if the medication is expressed in breast milk.
Possible Effects
-
ProAir has been known to cause dizziness in some users, which can cause problems while driving. It's recommended to avoid driving until you become accustomed to the medication. Tremors are noticed in the elderly who take ProAir. Headaches, sinus issues, an unusual aftertaste and sore throat are also effects caused by the medication. Severe reactions--such as rash, hives, the throat closing up, swelling of the mouth and face, and wheezing--can occur. However, severe reactions are rare.
