Aerochamber Directions

Asthma is a disease that can leave a person gasping for air and in need of an inhaler. An inhaler provides almost immediate relief by opening up the constricted airways and allowing a person to breathe easier. An aerochamber is often used for babies and other children too young to use an inhaler. An aerochamber is also used for older children or adults who need to be able to breathe in as much as possible of the medicated vapors.

Instructions

    • 1

Shake the inhaler four or five times to mix up the medication.

    • 2

Attach the inhaler to the opening of the aerochamber by putting the mouthpiece of the inhaler into the aerochamber. If you are using the aerochamber for an infant or another person who is not able to understand when to breathe in, use a mask and attach this to the aerochamber.

    • 3

Place the mouthpiece of the inhaler into your mouth or the mouth of the person who needs the medication the inhaler provides. If using a mask, push the mask against the face, and apply enough gentle pressure to create a tight seal so vapors don't escape.

    • 4

Depress the inhaler and take a long, deep breath. Attempt to hold your breath for 10 seconds. Take an additional breath to pull in any additional medication vapors. If using a mask, depress the inhaler and breathe normally for 30 seconds. Repeat the process if you have been instructed to use two puffs of the inhaler.
