How to Use Ventolin With a Spacer
Ventolin, a brochodilator, works to quickly open the airways in the event of constriction. Ventolin inhalers can be used by inserting in the mouth, and pressing the top of the inhaler and breathing in deeply at the same time. For young children or those who have trouble taking deep breaths, a spacer can help them breathe in their full dose of Ventolin more easily.Things You'll Need

1
Shake the inhaler and then insert the mouthpiece into the opening on the spacer. Push and wiggle the mouth piece until it is securely in place. This creates a seal to prevent the Ventolin mist from escaping.
-
2
Press the inhaler one time and insert the end of the spacer into your mouth and take a deep breath. Hold your breath for as long as possible, preferably 10 seconds. Take another deep breath. Keep the spacer in place for 30 seconds. This will help ensure you have inhaled all of the Ventolin mist. If your spacer has an open end similar to a face mask, place the spacer against the face and then press the inhaler, do not remove the spacer until 30 seconds has passed. Repeat a second time if your doctor has prescribed two puffs of Ventolin.

Remove the Ventolin inhaler and clean the spacer at least once per week using soapy dishwater. Allow the spacer to completely dry before using.
