Can you give a newborn puppy bronchitis?

It is possible to spread respiratory infections from an adult dog to a newborn puppy, including bronchitis.

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes, which are the air passages that lead from the trachea (windpipe) to the lungs. This inflammation can be caused by viruses or bacteria and is often secondary to an upper respiratory infection, in people that would be the common cold or flu.

While it is possible to spread bronchitis from an adult dog to a newborn puppy, the puppy's immune system is still developing and they may be more susceptible to severe illness. Puppies with bronchitis may experience difficulty breathing, coughing, wheezing, and nasal discharge. In severe cases, bronchitis can lead to pneumonia and death.

If you think your newborn puppy may have bronchitis, it is important to take them to a veterinarian as soon as possible for treatment. The veterinarian may prescribe antibiotics or other medications to help treat the infection and may recommend supportive care such as rest, fluids, and a humidifier.
