Who gets asthma?

Anyone can get asthma, however some groups of people are more likely to develop it than others. These groups include:

- Children and adolescents: Asthma is most common in children and adolescents, and it often starts in childhood.

- People with a family history of asthma: If you have a parent, sibling, or other close relative with asthma, you are more likely to develop it yourself.

- People who live in urban areas: People who live in urban areas are more likely to develop asthma than those who live in rural areas.

- People who are exposed to certain triggers: Certain triggers can cause asthma attacks in people who are already predisposed to the condition. These triggers include allergens (such as pollen, dust mites, and pet dander), irritants (such as smoke, pollution, and chemicals), and exercise.
