Asthma Education Certification
The Asthma Education Certification (AE-C) certifies that an asthma educator has current, relevant and correct knowledge of asthma and its management. The certification is offered by the National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB).-
Eligibility
-
You can take the exam if you are a licensed or credentialed health care professional. You can also take the exam if you provide professional asthma education and you have at least 1,000 hours experience in providing asthma education.
Review Classes
-
The NAECB is not allowed to provide review and preparation classes. However, professional organizations that provide review classes include the American Lung Association, American Association of Respiratory Care, Association of Asthma Education and National Respiratory Training Center.
Self-Assessment Exam
-
You can take a self-assessment exam for the AE-C to help you prepare for the main exam. The self-assessment exam provides a multi-choice exam, answers and rationale for each answer.
Continuing Respiratory Care Education
-
Passing the AE-C certification test can qualify you to receive 10 hours of continuing respiratory care education (CRCE), as required by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).
Recertification
-
You must take a recertification test every seven years to maintain your credentials.
