Using Your Advair Inhaler

Prime the inhaler. Shake your inhaler for five seconds, press down on the top of the canister and spray it once. Shake the unit again for another five seconds, press down on the canister and spray it another three times. Prime your inhaler only after you take it out of the box, or if you have not used it for four weeks or more.

Shake your Advair unit up and down for five seconds first thing in the morning. Exhale once and place your mouth on the mouth piece. Push the top of the canister down and inhale slowly as the medication is dispensed inside your mouth. Hold your breath for 10 seconds or as long as possible, then breath normally. Wait a half minute, shake the canister again for five seconds and repeat usage a second time. Use the inhaler two times in the evening about 12 hours later, or as directed by your physician.

After each use, rinse your mouth thoroughly with mouthwash for up to 30 seconds. Spit the mouthwash out and rinse your mouth again.

Remove the canister and clean your dispenser unit thoroughly with soap and water at least once per week.
