Side Effects of Perforomist Solution

Perforomist is a medication prescribed to treat asthma and other lung disorders. It is slowly inhaled twice a day using a nebulizer. The brand name for formoterol, Perforomist is used to prevent breathing problems, but not for use during an asthma attack. Many side effects are common.
  1. Warning

    • Perforomist, like other long-acting beta-agonist medications, has been linked to an increased risk of death from asthma symptoms, although this is rare. Severe breathing problems can occur immediately after inhaling a dose.

    Other Serious Effects

    • Other serious side effects associated with Perforomist also are uncommon. They include allergic reactions, chest pain, rapid or irregular heartbeat, high blood sugar, low blood potassium, and severe or persistent dizziness, headache, or muscle pain.

    Minor Side Effects

    • A small percentage of people using Perforomist experience minor side effects. These include diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, headache, insomnia, nausea, nervousness, sore throat and tremors.

    Contraindications

    • People with certain health conditions may not be able to safely use Perforomist. These include allergies to milk or lactose intolerance, cardiovascular problems, diabetes, liver dysfunction, overactive thyroid or seizure disorders.

    Drug Interactions

    • Numerous drugs interact with Perforomist solution. They include beta blockers, corticosteroids, diuretics, xanthines and certain antidepressants.
