How to Promote Good Posture
Instructions

-
1
Routinely sit-up straight. Sitting at a desk can cause a person to use many "crutches" from leaning onto the desk, to slouching to one side, to over-depending on arm rests.
-
2
Take periodic breaks when working. Sitting in one position too long, even with good posture, can place undo strain on the spine. Muscles surrounding the back should be lightly worked from time to time.
-
3
Be aware of your posture in everyday circumstances. Promoting good posture isn't only practicing while sitting or standing at work; lunch and other breaks, as well as personal time lull a person into a more relaxed and unaware state of mind. This is when promoting good posture will be most difficult so it's important to remain aware of positioning.
-
4
Use an ergonomic chair. These chairs help to promote proper posture and make sitting upright more comfortable.
-
5
Wear foot supports. Proper shoe supports or footwear can also assist in standing and sitting with good posture.
