Abdominal & Back Pain

Abdominal pain is defined as pain anywhere between the chest and the groin. Back pain is any pain that occurs in the back. This makes causal determination a little tricky unless the specific site of the pain can be pinpointed.

    • Abdominal pain, when accompanied by back pain, can be debilitating. Additionally, it is sometimes difficult for the individual to locate the center of the pain. Medical treatment should be sought if this condition persists.

    Causes

    • Pain that exists in the abdomen and the back can have a number of causes. Likely stressors include kidney stones, endometriosis of uterine fibroids in women or an aortic aneurism.

    Symptoms

    • Pain sufferers with one of these issues may experience pain in the mid or lower regions of the abdomen and an achy or severe pain across the lower back. Pain may become severe or stabbing at times.

    Medical Care

    • Treatment will depend on the cause of the pain. A physical exam will ascertain the problem. Kidney stones may pass on their own, and medications exist that facilitate this process. In the case of endometriosis, uterine fibroids and aneurism, surgery will be indicated.

    Home Treatments

    • If the pain is deemed not serious, a change in diet could alleviate the pain. Over-the-counter stomach medications and topical heating pads may also be helpful.
