How to Fix Male Posture

Whether it's at work, the mall or the gym, people take notice of a man standing tall and confidently more than they notice a man who slouches and cowers. Good posture goes a long way for your appearance, confidence and overall health. According to Ask Men, your overall health is heavily invested in your spine. When your spine is out of whack, you are more likely to get sick and experience back and neck pain. Take notice of your posture. Do you slouch? Do you experience pain or discomfort in your back? Do you want to have a confident presence wherever you are? Here are some ways to improve your posture.

Look in a mirror and observe what is making you slouch. Your head should be square on your shoulders. Your shoulders should be square and big on your torso. And your knees should be slightly bent. All of these points should form a straight line.

In your chair at work, sit back and relax, keeping your back straight against the back of the chair. Your hips should be pushed back as far as they can go in the chair, keeping your knees at hip level, according to Ask Men. If the chair doesn't provide your back with enough support, place a pillow between your lower back and the chair.

Avoid leaning forward. Make sure that your keyboard is close enough, so that you don't have to reach for it. Push up your chair far enough, so that you can see the computer screen and reach the keyboard.

    • 4

Sleep on your back or side. This allows your back to be supported by the natural curve of the mattress. Avoid sleeping on your stomach, unless you place a pillow under your pelvis. Use a firm pillow that keeps your head flush with the rest of your body.

Exercise your back and abs often. These regions support your posture, serving as check and balance for each other. If you have weak abs, you are more prone to lean forward, causing back pain and injury. Exercising these crucial regions will make a huge difference in how you feel, improving your posture.
