Losing a few pounds can reduce back pain if you are overweight. Alternating heat and ice or taking a long hot bath can be effective. Rest, but not over one or two days of it, can also alleviate the pain. Flexibility exercises such as yoga can strengthen your back and reduce the risk of further injury.
