1
Stand in a comfortable position. Do not suck in your stomach too much before you put on the back support because this will cause breathing problems once the brace is secure. In the same respect, do not stick your stomach out too much, as the support will be too loose when you breathe in.
-
2
Locate the middle of the back support brace. Often the center of the support is marked. Align this section with your spine. There is also usually some type of writing on the support to indicate when the brace is right side up.
-
3
Wrap the support around your back. Make sure that the fastening straps are on the outside of the belt. With the center of the support placed in the center of your lower back, pull the main strap ends together and secure them into place. Do not pull too tightly or too loosely. The straps must be placed in a comfortable position so the brace provides stability on your back while not being too tight.

4
There are usually two more straps, one on each side of the support to provide more stability for your back. Pull each end and place them securely toward the front of the belt. Again, be sure that these are not pulled too tightly or too loosely when you are securing them.
-
5
Sit down with the support in place. Make sure that the support is not too low, which will make it difficult and uncomfortable to sit down. If this is the case, move the support slightly upward and repeat steps 1 through 4. If you have never worn a back support before you may need to do this several times until you are able to find the position that is most comfortable and provides the most stability on your back.
