Cervical Radiculopathy Symptoms

Cervical radiculopathy is basically the damage to the root of the nerve within the cervical region (the neck) of the spine. Typically, this damage is due to some sort of compression within one of the vertebrae and will bring about a few symptoms that will indicate that an injury has occurred.
  1. Pain

    • One of the most predominant symptoms of cervical radiculopathy is pain, and much like any pain due to pressure on a nerve within the spine, it can range from a dull throb to a shooting sensation. This pain can affect the neck, arms, shoulders and even chest.

    Numbness

    • Another fairly common symptom of cervical radiculopathy will involve some numbness within the arms, hands and fingers, as well as the neck. The breadth of this numbness will depend on the severity of the damage or compression.

    Tingling

    • Sometimes, cervical radiculopathy may also manifest what is best described as a tingling sensation in the hands and fingers.

    Weakness

    • If there is significant compression, a person suffering from cervical radiculopathy may also notice a lack of strength within the arms and hands.

    Coordination

    • On occasion, cervical radiculopathy may also bring about a lack of coordination within the hands and fingers.
