How to Get Rid of Sciatica

1
Avoid lifting heavy objects if you suffer from sciatica. Use proper lifting techniques for anything from lifting a baby to running a vacuum cleaner. Inflammation of nerve tissues is usually caused by overexertion, so allow the area plenty of time to heal if it has been injured.
-
2
Exercise gradually to help strengthen the lower back muscles. Weight bearing exercises may also help prevent other conditions which cause bone wear and tear as well as osteoporosis. Strong stomach muscles will also help improve posture and prevent injuries, so take time every day to perform basic abdominal strengthening exercises like crunches.
-
3
Practice good posture at all times. Stand and walk with your hips tucked under. Avoid carrying heavy objects, purses or books while walking.
-
4
Lose weight. If you are overweight, you're adding stress to the lower spinal joints, which causes compression of tissues, bones and nerves.
-
5
Ask your doctor about medication treatments or physical therapy. Pain relievers and complete rest may be prescribed for a short period of time, but follow up with exercise that keeps bones, muscles and nerve tissues healthy and strong.
