How to Counter the Effects of Hunching Over
Poor posture such as hunching over or slouching is the number one reason for back pain. As kids we were always told to sit up straight. It is a common problem and one that is difficult to fix. Poor posture can trigger a long list of spinal problems including arthritis.Instructions

Sit and stand tall. Sit up and reach the top of your head toward the ceiling. Try to stand and sit as straight as possible. When poor posture has been a habit this may be difficult and requires discipline.

Wear comfortable shoes. High heels although fashionable can cause poor posture and put too much strain on your back. Flat shoes with good support are best.

Avoid backpacks and bags that are too heavy. Carrying these things will pull your spine out of alignment. Either lighten the load or invest in a bag that has wheels for you to pull.

Take a yoga or pilate's class. These two exercise routines are great for teaching the principles of good posture. After practicing yoga or pilates over a period, your spine can be retrained to assume a good posture.

Seek physical therapy to reduce pain and correct poor posture with a series of isolated exercises.
