How to Survive the Bird Flu Pandemic
Instructions

1
Avoid birds and their feces. Most cases of bird flu transmission occur from direct contact with infected birds or their droppings. If you must handle potentially infected birds, do so with care and always sanitize your hands after contact.
-
2
Stay away from other humans infected with the bird flu virus. Although human-to-human transmission of H5N1 is less common than bird to human infections, close contact with infected humans can give you the bird flu. Mutation of the H5N1 virus can also potentially increase the instances of human to human infections.
-
3
Cook chicken and other fowl thoroughly before eating. Medicine Net reports that you cannot catch the bird flu -- even from infected birds -- when the meat is properly cooked. Cook meat to at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit and cook eggs until they are firm. Also, sanitize your hands and surfaces before and after handling raw poultry.
-
4
Seek medical help immediately if you experience bird flu-related symptoms. The symptoms of bird flu are similar to conventional flu symptoms, such as coughing, fever, muscle aches and sore throat. See a doctor if these symptoms manifest, especially if you have recently traveled to places with bird flu or have visited farms or markets with live poultry.
-
5
Stock up on supplies like canned goods, over the counter drugs, first aid supplies, batteries and candles. If the bird flu spreads in your neighborhood, you do not want to leave your home unnecessarily, as this will increase your potential exposure to the virus.
