Information on Clexane Products
Clexane is an anticoagulant medicine used for patients who need blood-thinning medication. Clexane is a heparin product, which has had contamination issues over the past few years and has therefore undergone extensive and continuous testing.-
Chemical Makeup
-
Clexane contains the chemical ingredient enoxaperin, otherwise known as heparin. A blood clot that forms in the wrong place is called a thromboembolism and keeps blood from reaching vital organs. Clexane causes thrombin not to activate, preventing clots from forming.
Uses
-
Like other products with a heparin base, Clexane is used for heart surgery patients, kidney complication patients and other patients with medical conditions that have a danger of blood clotting. Clexane is also used to directly treat blood clots.
Warnings
-
Clexane has been recalled multiple times over the past several years due to severe allergic reactions by patients around the world. Those with an abnormal weight, who are over 80 years old or who have diabetes should be cautious about using Clexane. Always consult a physician before beginning new medication.
Side Effects
-
Side effects include swelling, pain, bleeding, osteoporosis, high potassium levels and spinal blood clots. An allergy to Clexane is not uncommon either in users of the drug.
