How to Donate Plasma in Minneapolis

You have something valuable running through your veins: plasma. Blood contains a cellular portion and a liquid portion, called plasma. The plasma can be separated and used to treat medical conditions such as bleeding disorders, burns, immunological disorders and to facilitate healing. Instructions

    • 1

Determine your preferred plasma donation center in Minneapolis. Consider CSL Plasma at 1026 Washington Ave. SE or Memorial Blood Center at 109 S. 7th St # 115.

    • 2

Prepare for your plasma donation by drinking several glasses of water the day before you go and avoiding caffeine and alcohol. Find a book or magazine to take with you to pass the time while hooked up to the plasma machine.

    • 3

Arrive at center and perform necessary paperwork. Show identification, Social Security card and proof of residency, which could be a recent piece of mail.

    • 4

Undergo physical examination including finger stick and vital signs check to determine eligibility. Give all pertinent medical information such as medical conditions, recent major surgery, history of seizures or drug abuse, and tattoos or piercings.

    • 5

Donate your plasma. You will be connected to the plasmapheresis machine, which takes the platelets out of the blood and returns the red blood cells back through the same needle. This process will take approximately 45 minutes.

    • 6

Receive your compensation after resting and having a small snack. The whole procedure may take three hours the first time but your records are kept on file so the next time you go, it will take approximately one and one half hours.
