What is the major differences between Acute Anemia and Chronic Anemia?
Acute anemia:
- Rapid onset of symptoms within days to weeks
- Symptoms are typically more severe
- Common causes include: severe blood loss (such as from trauma, surgery, or gastrointestinal bleeding), rapid destruction of red blood cells (hemolysis), or impaired production of red blood cells (bone marrow failure)
Chronic anemia:
- Develops over a longer period of time, usually months to years
- Symptoms are typically mild and may go unnoticed
- Common causes include: chronic conditions such as iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, folate deficiency, or certain chronic diseases (such as cancer, kidney disease, thyroid disease, or inflammatory diseases)
- Iron deficiency anemia is the most common type of anemia worldwide, particularly in developing countries
