Are Transfusion incompatibility reactions always fatal?
Transfusion incompatibility reactions are not always fatal. While some reactions can be life-threatening, many are mild and cause no lasting harm. The severity of a reaction depends on several factors, including the type of incompatibility, the amount of transfused blood, and the recipient's immune status. Immediate hemolytic transfusion reactions are the most severe type of transfusion incompatibility reaction, and can cause rapid destruction of transfused red blood cells, leading to kidney failure, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and even death. Non-hemolytic transfusion reactions, such as allergic reactions or febrile reactions, are generally less severe and do not typically cause life-threatening complications.
