What would happen if blood was water?

If blood was water, it would not be able to carry oxygen as well as current blood, and all vertebrates on Earth would likely eventually go extinct.

Water has a much lower viscosity than blood and cannot effectively deliver enough oxygen by volume for vertebrates; it also lacks several proteins like haemoglobin that plays a pivotal role in transportation of oxygen and other nutrients via blood.
