What is more dangerous a thrombus or embolism?

An embolism is generally considered more dangerous.

A thrombus is a clump of blood that forms in a blood vessel. Most thrombi are harmless are dissolved by the body over time. However, a thrombus can become dangerous if it blocks a major blood vessel, such as an artery or a vein. This can lead to a stroke, heart attack, or deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

An embolism is a thrombus that has broken off from its original location and traveled through the bloodstream to a new location. Emboli can be very dangerous because they can block blood flow to vital organs, such as the brain, heart, or lungs. This can lead to sudden death.

In general, an embolism is more dangerous than a thrombus because it is more likely to cause sudden death. However, both thrombi and emboli can be dangerous and should be treated promptly.
