Signs & Symptoms of Bone Marrow Failure
Bone marrow failure occurs when the bone marrow fails to produce blood cells. Bone marrow failure can be acquired after birth or it can be inherited. When this condition is inherited it is most often seen in younger children. When it is acquired it is most often seen in younger adults. Both types of bone marrow failure, inherited and acquired, can lead to a condition called anemia (a condition where a patient's red blood cell count is low).-
Bleeding and Bruising

According to eMedicine, bleeding, and bruising are the most common signs and symptoms of bone marrow failure. Patients can experience gum, nose or skin bleeding that lasts longer than normal. They may also notice blood in their stools and urine. They may also bruise easily. Simply bumping something can lead to a nasty bruise which will often last longer than normal.
Skin, Teeth, and Nails

According to eMedicine, patients may experience a variety of skin, teeth, and nail problems. Tooth loss and tooth decay are seen in patients with this condition. They may also experience deformed nails and nail loss. Tongue ulcers and mouth ulcers can also occur. Skin symptoms include coffee-colored spots on the skin, pale skin, or red pinpoint marks on the skin. Patients may also notice hair loss and premature hair graying.
Other Symptoms

According to the PDR Health, children with this condition may experience poor growth, foul smelling, greasy stools, a small head, and digestive problems. Patients may experience frequent colds or infections. Fever, shortness of breath, and fatigue can also occur.
