Low Protein Blood Level Symptoms

Low blood protein is the result of a disorder that damages the kidneys and causes protein to be excreted into the urine. This condition is commonly known as nephrotic syndrome and presents with specific symptoms.
  1. Urine

    • Protein in the urine causes it to appear frothy. There may be what seems to be foam in your toilet water after you have urinated.

    Weight

    • Another symptom of nephrotic syndrome is unexpected weight gain despite the poor appetite that accompanies the condition. The weight gain is typically because of fluid retention.

    Swelling

    • You may notice swelling in the face and around the eyes, in the ankles and feet. You may also notice swelling in your abdomen.

    Miscellaneous

    • High blood pressure is another symptom of this syndrome.

    Medical Professional

    • MedlinePlus recommends you contact a medical professional if you have these symptoms, or symptoms such as decreased urine output, headaches, fever, sores on the skin, discomfort when urinating or a cough.
