How to Get Blood to Clot Faster

If you suffer from hemophilia or a similar condition, your blood has trouble clotting. This can lead to heavy bleeding, bruising, headaches, and swelling of the joints. Fortunately, there are several ways to combat this type of condition and accelerate the blood clotting process.

Instructions

    • 1

Receive injections of desmopressin (DDAVP). This hormone causes the body to accelerate its own natural clotting mechanism. This treatment can be given by your doctor several times a week as a preventative measure to avoid heavy bleeding in case of injury or trauma.

    • 2

Exercise regularly. Regular physical activity strengthens muscles and joints while promoting healthy blood function. Try jogging or swimming in the morning a few times a week. Avoid any kind of exercise that could cause serious injury, such as football or heavy lifting.

    • 3

Avoid medicines and drugs that cause your blood to thin. These offending drugs include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin, and heparin.

    • 4

If you take vitamin supplements, check with your doctor about the amount of vitamin E you should be taking. Too much vitamin E may cause the blood to thin.
